Every one of us in the beginning asks this question “How to get traffic to my blog?” Well I would say it’s not easy but at the same time it’s not hard either. The tips that I am going to mention below had been spoken by many other bloggers but I will try to explain as simple as possible so that you have a better understanding. Before going further I would also want to say that some of these techniques are very easy to implement, while others requires some preparation before applying them but don’t worry its not something scary. Ok so let’s start and see if we can bring some traffic to your blog.
Write Comments On Popular Blogs
This is the most effective way to get traffic for your blog. Start commenting on other Blogs. One of the best ways to find the right type of reader for your blog is to comment on other people’s blog. You should aim to comment on Blogs focused on a similar niche topic to yours since the readers there will be more likely to be interested in your blog. For example if you are blogging on technology then try to be among the top five commentators in Blogs like TechCrunch and ReadWriteWeb to name some. Most blog commenting systems allows you to have your name or title linked to your blog when you leave a comment. This is how people find your blog. If you are a regular commentator and give something meaningful and valuable comments then people will be interested to read more of your work and hence click through to visit your blog.
Start Discussions in Social Media Sites
My favourite social sites are Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Mybloglog to name few. What you need to do is to create and build up a decent profile in these social sites and then start discussing with few of the popular bloggers in similar niche like commenting on one of their post or even tweet them in twitter. Always remember be first to add them in friends list or to comment in these site rather than wait for some one come to you. People who visit these sites are very friendly and enthusiastic and are there because they want to make friends, exchanges and share ideas.
Submit articles in EzineArticles and Blog Carnival
Submit your latest pillar article or post to popular article submission sites like EzineArticles and Blog Carnival. The idea behind these sites is to collect some of the best content on a topic in a given week. Usually many other Blogs link back to these featured post which results in a sudden spike in new readers. To find the right topic to submit your post in EzineArticles and Blog Carnival for your blog, do a search at http://ezinearticles.com/ and http://blogcarnival.com/.
Trackbacks and Linking Can Increase Traffic
Trackback is sort of like a blog conversation. When you write a new article to your blog and it links or references another blogger’s article you can do a trackback to their entry. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry – it’s sort of like your blog telling someone else’s blog that you wrote an article mentioning them. Trackbacks often appear like comments. This is a good technique because like leaving comments a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow, but it also does something very important – it gets the attention of another blogger. The other blogger will come and read your post eager to see what you wrote about them. They may then become a loyal reader of yours or at least monitor you and if you are lucky some time down the road they may do a post linking to your blog bringing in more new readers.
Lastly I would like to say that all these tips require patience and time. It’s often that we don’t have patience and move one but still want traffic and popularity. Initially it’s like that and I was no exception but there is no other way. Try these tips to bring traffic flow to your blog. Also suggest if you know other techniques you often use to achieve the same.
Be Active In Forums
Just like commenting, a few value adding contributions to relevant forums with links back to your blog in your signature file will bring visitors to your blog. Again, the more energy and time you invest in establishing a credible profile in a forum, the more traffic you will send to your blog. Basically forums are discussion sites. One person starts a topic or thread with a question or a comment, and then others respond, either with an answer or their own comments.
One thing we should remember here is that people are giving advice free of charge in forums, but at the cost of their time and energy. So, they expect that the favour will be returned, so if you are into a forum thinking to have some traffic without anything to give then you will be avoided.
Take the time to respond to others threads before you start your own. If you see most forums show the number of posts of the author next to every comment. I would suggest that you make at least 50 posts before you start your own thread. It’s important to establish yourself first otherwise even if you have important questions they may ignore you.
If someone has already said something on a thread, don’t bother repeating it (The “ME TOO” factor). All you’re doing is wasting your energy and other people’s time. Having said this I don’t mean to say that you shouldn’t state your agreement with someone else, but make sure you provide additional support to their argument. Again in case you disagree with a thread, make use of the opportunity to contribute a new angle to the argument.
I have tried to list some of the forums which are really good but I would suggest that you join in 1 or 2 forums and work our rather that getting yourself registered in all these forums and not being able to contribute fully.

Thank you Krish, very useful info.
What exactly makes a “Pillar”? Lots of comments? Lots of link-backs” My own ego? LOL
Seriously though, I’m curious.
And of course, EA is at the top of the list.

Thanks Dennis. Well I just tried explaining as much as I can in this small space. hope it helps.
There is no exact formula for prducing an article that will become a pillar however there are some key characterstics you can work on. Here are some of the pillar article concepts that you can post to your blog :
1) The “How To” Article
2) Creating a Definition Article – This could be having a glossary page in your blog.
3) Writing a Theory or Argument – Could be giving an opinion on a major issue in your industry which you think readers will take interest.
4) Create a resource like free reports or whitepaper
5) Creating List article – one of the most popular pillar concepts is a list article. You have probably seen many of these at other blogs. The usual titles are “Top 8 Ways….” or ” 5 Tips To Improve…” and so on.. These work well for couple of reasons –
- List are easily appreciated by people
- People love to share list with other people
Cheers
Krish
