Basic Blogging Jargons for a Newbie

If this is the first time for you getting involved with internet and you want to creat a blog of your own, then below are some of the basic jargons which you need to know to start with  -

1.    Domain Name – Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages for example in my case its bloggertalkz.com

2.    Web Hosting – Its a business of providing the storage, connectivity, and services necessary to serve files for a website. A company that provides web hosting services is called a web host.

3.    URLUniform Resource Locator. It is the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. The first part of the address indicates what protocol to use, and the second part specifies the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located for example http://bloggertalkz.com where http is the protocol.

4.    Browser – A web browser or so called browser is a software application used to locate and display Web pages. There are many browsers around like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape Navigator etc..

5.    Blogging Services – They are blog software or blogware which consists of a specialised form of Content Management Systems specifically designed for creating and maintaining blogs.

6.    Feeds – A  feed  is a data format used for providing users with frequently updated content. Bloggers syndicate a web feed, thereby allowing users to subscribe to it. Feeds usually end in .xml or .rss

7.    IP Address – IP stands for Internet Protocol. Every machine on the Internet has a unique identifying number, called an IP Address. A typical IP address looks like this: 216.239.51.99
