Go Viral on Twitter

Do you have a twitter account for your blog? If not then the first thing you do after reading this article is to create a twitter account.

I joined twitter few weeks back and in the beginning I started following some names and faces that I know from my blogging world. Actually it was a bit of excitement being in twitter because you can see so many conversations going around and you are watching it. The messages or tweets keeps pouring in like anything every second.

One of thing I noted was, even though twitter seems to be crowded I haven’t gathered enough followers even after following so many people in twitter. Then I realized that if I had to make the most of twitter I should know the people whom I should be following.

This is when I came across a post in TwiTip.com which gave me a list of individuals who have large followers and are influential. I have added a few more into the original. The very moment I clicked the follow button for all these below people I can’t say how surprised I was to see the list of people following me increasing. My followers list increased from 15 to 60 in just 3 hours…Can you believe that but its true…

Thanks to Darren Rowse for putting up this list in his blog.

Whereas that’s not a bad list, the problem with it is that almost none of them will ever respond to you if you happen to write them. The one exception I’ve found, so far, is Guy Kawasaki, and only if you send him a DM and it’s relevant to something he’s been talking about. For me, I’d rather have some people I can at least talk with to follow.

Hi Mitch,
Thanks for your comments. I understand that some of them might not respond early but these people have huge followers which results in a huge traffic flow to your blog and also people who want to follow you and want to talk with you. I have tried the same and has found many followers who are interested to talk with me :) For a start up blogger its a good way to bring in more readers to their blog.
Please put in your list of people in the comment section whom you think is worth following.
Thanks once again and hope to see you around.

Cheers
Krish

This may sound odd, Krish, but I don’t really have a list of who would be good to follow; isn’t that a shame? I follow a bunch of people, of course, but the people I’ve segregated to follow more closely are friends, and my local news, so everyone else is just grouped together. I guess I haven’t through as much about specific people I follow as I should.

I think these are great examples of people to follow for new users to get an idea of what kind of tweeting / topics make for great Twitter conversation. And you never know.. if your tweet happens to be picked up by one these power users, and they RT it, then you are in for a whirlwind of traffic. One of mine was picked up by a Twitter user with 16,000+ followers, and that article has now been RT’d more than any other article I’ve posted.
